Last weekend we decided (at the last minute) to check out the fair in the next county. Papa and Nana had plans to take Rachel to some caverns up north, but they were easily convinced to do that another weekend and join us at the fair. Actually, my dad had been looking for a fair to attend. They had always enjoyed going to the fair when they lived in PA. Ken and I always enjoyed the Wayne County Fair in Ohio, so we were all looking forward to it!
If you arrived between 1-3pm, you could get in free, so that saved us $20 right off the bat!! We started out watching the "Doggies of the Wild West" show. It was okay. The dogs were super cute, but the jokes and the tricks were sorta lame. It began raining during the performance, so they cut it short.
The next show was "The Paddling Porkers". It was a pig race. Aaron enjoyed this, but didn't understand why they only let the pigs do one lap each. Someone in the audience was chosen to represent each pig as they raced. The winner recieved a blue ribbon. Great idea, but dumb prize. The last 2 races the pigs actually swam through a pool of water. Jeremiah thought that was a hoot and wanted more!!
Next we saw the barn that had the animals in it. The barn was SUPER CLEAN! The best part was the ducklings that could climb up some green turf and then slide down a waterfall into a little pond. Dad couldn't get over the fact that there was only 1 cow! There were actually a few more that you could milk, but only one to look at. In PA there were barns and barns full of cows!! There were also a few sheep and goats, a donkey, some cute chicks, and tons of bunnies!
We made it back over to the stage for the Magic Show. This was clearly the best show of the day. The magician was pretty funny and his illusions were great! Rachel actually was chosen by the magician's assistant before the show to be levitated. The assistant said Rachel was a good singer (she was jammin' the the pre-show tunes) and that is why she was chosen. Too bad Rachel couldn't figure out how they did it!
Everyone had a snack and then we went to the kiddie rides. I bought 24 tickets for $20. That was enough for a few rides... ha ha ha... Aaron chose a car ride (no surprise there) and a roller coaster. I don't think he liked it. His face looked like he was enduring it. He said he was okay, but didn't want to go again! Summer rode a little ride where there were mini 4-wheelers going around and around. You could push the buttons and they would beep. $3 for that!! She also went fishing for a prize. Rachel and her friend went through a fun house and then joined me on the Ferris Wheel.
The best part of the night was when Dad and I convinced Mom to let the "guy" try and guess her age. We were both convinced he would guess that she was younger than her actual age. We thought we better hide dad so the guy wouldn't guess mom older than she actually was! ha ha ha! I thought maybe he would guess 58. He was allowed to be within 2 years so that would be a win for us. Sure enough! He guessed 58 and mom could choose a cheesy prize from the cart. We actually found a cute, hot-pink, cat. I think Mom was proud. I was!
It was a lot of fun and no one seemed to mind that they were limited to just a ride or two. They got cotton candy, pretzels, and a funnel cake, so they were happy. It cost our family under $50, so we were happy, too. Enjoy the pictures!
