Memorial Day Weekend 2007

What a fabulous weekend!

We went up to Deep Creek Lake in Maryland and rented a cabin with my family - my parents, my sister Katie and her husband and two kids, and my sister Julie. That's a total of 12 if you're counting...

The purpose of the trip was to celebrate my dad's 60th birthday. We did that the night we arrived with dinner around the huge table, German chocolate cake that Katie made, gifts, and a slide show that Julie had prepared that recapped my dad's life. After putting the kids to bed, some of us retreated to the hot tub on the deck. It was fun playing charades in the hot tub!

The next morning we rode horseback. Even Rachel got to do it!! Dad rode Dolly, Mom rode Gypsy, Ken rode Speed, Julie rode Clyde, Betty rode Rain, Rachel rode Squirrel and I rode Rebel! (he was quite the rebel...) Julie's horse always wanted to be in front and mom's horse bit mine in the butt!! Katie and Eric took the younger kids to a gift shop that morning and they bought Aaron a toy jet plane! Thanks Aunt Katie!

After lunch and some "quiet rest" we headed out for a hike in one of the many state parks in the area. The highlight of the hike was when the five original members of the Fisher family felled a tree in memory of a time (about 20 years ago) when we did that on a camping trip in Pennsylvania.

A late dinner followed the hike. We enjoyed S'mores by a campfire and then put the kids to bed.

Monday morning we rented a Pontoon boat and took it out for a spin on the lake. No one threw up, so I call it a successful ride. Betty actually got in the water for about 2 seconds! BRRR! I enjoyed laying on the back of the boat and getting some sun. Aaron keeps telling everyone about the boat ride and how it was his first time ever on a boat. It's cute to hear about how that made an impression on him.

So, those were the Highlights of the trip. Enjoy the slideshow of our trip!
